Well it has been a momentous year and here at Wheelbase.co.uk we want to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
2015 has been an incredible year for the automotive industry and it has been a year of highs and lows. We’re a positive bunch here, so we’ll start with the highlights. It’s the year that Ferrari finally accepted the march of progress and brought us the turbocharged 488, which turned out to be an epic car. Lamborghini, meanwhile, raged against the dying of the light and stuck with its normally aspirated roots with the Aventador SV and just recently the two-wheel-drive Huracan.
McLaren gave its answer with the 570 S, which is the British sportscar legend's attempt to take on the Porsche 911 Turbo and create a mass market machine.
Alfa Romeo continued its spectacular process with its Giulietta QV and Mazda brought us the latest generation of its greatest, the MX-5. Eco warriors Tesla introduced the Model S and there were more highlights every way you looked. Land Rover has continued to go from strength to strength and has finally introduced the car we all knew was coming: the Evoque Convertible.
The hot hatch division has enjoyed a resurgence, too, with the new Civic Type R going to war with Renault, Ford and VW.
Of course there was the occasional lowlight, too, especially that dark time when VW was castigated around the world for its unconventional approach to emissions testing in America.
It has been an outstanding year overall for the car industry, though, and a year that helped reignite the world’s passion for cars after the fallow years of the global recession.
So let’s take a moment to reflect on an incredible year and look forward to the next one.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
